The Bach Cantata Choir will be holding its annual Silent Auction Fundraiser with its first concert of the 2014-2015 season on Sunday, October 26, 2014. Doors open an hour before the concert (1:00pm) and bidding will close approximately 20 minutes after the concert.

It's not too late to donate items for our auction! The BCC is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of the community to fund our operations. Items such as gift certificates for goods or services are always popular, not to mention tickets to local concerts and events. Do you have something that you can donate? All funds raised at the auction are used to cover operational expenses such as use of the church, orchestra fees and printing costs. 

The BCC is is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. As such, the value of your donation is tax-deductible to the extent provided by law and regulation. We will gladly provide you with a receipt including our Tax ID Number (TIN) for your donation.

Dear Friends of Bach Cantata Choir,

A performance of the B Minor Mass by J.S. Bach is very exciting news! You may have heard that the Bach Cantata Choir will present this masterpiece over the course of our 10th Season. You will certainly want to attend each concert, not only to experience this work, but also to hear other works that help illumine the Mass.

To accomplish this, we need many of you be become more deeply involved. In a normal season, each concert costs around $9,000, most of which is provided by voluntary contributions from you. We are very grateful for your support. Without that support there would be no Bach Cantata Choir. However, as you would expect from a work the scale of the B Minor Mass, we will need extra resources this season. We hope that you can make an extra sponsorship gift of either $100 to become a Friend of the Choir or of $250 to become part of the Director’s Circle. We will offer the following benefits for becoming a B Minor Mass sponsor.

Friends of the Choir ($100)

• Recognition on our website and program.
  
• Invitation to special events, including a caroling party with the choir, a discussion of the B Minor Mass led by Ralph Nelson and a birthday party for Bach.
  

Director’s Circle ($250)

• Benefits available to Friends of the Choir.
  
• Two tickets to the Baroque Holiday Concert.
  
• Invitation to tour Bond Organ Builders who provides the organ at our concerts.

Join us in our third year of this popular summer event!

What:  Come and sing English and Italian madrigals (examples: The Silver Swan; Now is the Month of Maying; Come Again, Sweet Love; Fair Phyllis; Amo, Amas, I Love a Lass). We’ll throw in some songs from our old Europa Cantat books as well. Ralph Nelson will play and conduct. We’ll learn about 8 songs before we break for dessert; then we’ll come back and learn another 5-8 or so more songs. Finally, we'll sing through some of our favorites one more time.

When:  Friday, August 22nd, 2014 from 7pm-9pm at the home of Ralph and Sue Nelson, NE Portland; or Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 from 7pm-9pm at the home of Julie and Andy Beck, Beaverton. Exact address will be sent with reservation confirmation. Both locations are air-conditioned.

Cost:  $25 per person; if paid by check, payable to the Bach Cantata Choir.

Who:  Anyone who likes to sing! Ralph will teach the songs in a lively, fun manner. We are, however, limited to 20 singers per evening.

Dear Friend of the Bach Cantata Choir,

Thanks to many of you, 2013 was an incredible year for the Bach Cantata Choir. You filled the seats at our concerts. Bach would have been proud hearing you sing his chorales. And your financial support has allowed us to share this wonderful music with you for nearly eight years. One highlight was our participation in the Abbey Bach Festival in Mt. Angel and I know that many of you were there. Thank you for being part of this wonderful music making in 2013.

I hope to see most of you at our next concert on Friday, December 20th. We will present the Gloria by Vivaldi and cantatas by Bach and Kuneau, festive works supported by our full orchestra. Amidst this celebration you will find a gem that will be new to most of you: some beautifully serene carols by Johannas Eccard. You will not want to miss this highpoint of the holiday season. You may buy tickets from a choir member or online.

I know that many of you use the holiday season to make charitable donations. Please include the Bach Cantata Choir, if you can. The Bach Cantata Choir will present a free concert this Sunday, July 14th at 4pm in the Chapel of the Grotto, 8840 NE Skidmore St. (map).  The concert will include J.S. Bach’s Cantatas #6 and #124, as well as Motet #1 “Singet dem Herrn.”  The concert, which is free and open to the public, is in preparation of the choir’s singing at the Mt. Angel Abbey Bach Festival later this month. 

What is it about Weddings and Cake?! Is there a better way to conclude the Bach Cantata Choir’s 8th season than enjoying J.S. Bach’s Wedding Cantata and a piece of cake?

We hope you will stay following our June 2nd concert to join the Cake Walk.  (Think raffle combined with musical chairs with the prizes being delicious cakes. Old fashioned?  Sure, but cake walks are making a comeback.)

For just a $5 donation (note: larger donations will not be refused), you may take a turn for a chance take home one of about a dozen donated cakes. Or, if you prefer, just enjoy a piece of cake and watch others compete. Either way, stay and visit with us for a few minutes after the concert.

All proceeds from the Cake Walk will be used to fund our July trip to the 2013 Abbey Bach Festival.
