Spring Celebration Series
We are pleased to offer two presentations via Zoom to usher in the spring season. Registration form is below.
We hope you can join us for one or both!
Happy Birthday, Bach!
Sunday, March 21, 2021
2pm-3:30pm PDT
Celebrate the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach! Our program will include some of Bach's most meaningful choral works, and we are inviting some very special guests (besides you!).
Directors and choir members that we will meet at the Leipzig Bach Festival in 2022 have been invited to join us on Zoom. Choirs representing England, Belgium, Germany and others will join us in celebrating this special occasion.
Dr. Michael Maul, who gave our February lecture, will again participate from Leipzig.
You may want to have your own slice of cake or strudel ready to enjoy with us!
Easter Sunday Lecture
Sunday, April 4, 2021
2pm-3:30pm PDT
The choir will draw from its own archives to present Bach's Cantata BWV 4, "Christ lag in Todesbanden" ("Christ lay in the bonds of death"). We performed and recorded this work in May 2017, also singing it in Germany and at Mt. Angel in 2018.
The Bach Choir of Bethlehem writes: "Cantata 4 was written for Easter Sunday, though the date of the first performance is not clear. Stylistically, the work appears to have been written around 1707-1708, and it may be Bach’s earliest surviving sacred vocal composition."
If you're so inclined, bring a score and (while muted) sing along with us!
These events are free and open to the public. Donations are always gratefully accepted.
Advance reservations are required: To reserve a spot, fill out the form below or email Ralph Nelson. We'll email instructions and the Zoom link a few days ahead of time.
